"So what does it Mean?…"

All artists have been asked this question about their work. Of course, great art often evades an essentialist "meaning" and can be understood differently by each subjective viewer; however, there are many instances where a formal interpretation can be immensely helpful. Artists statements, exhibition proposals, residency applications - the list goes on. Unfortunately, not all artists are as great at writing as Hito Steyerl, or they may simply see it as one more obstacle that keeps them from the studio.

That's where I come in.

I have extensive experience writing about art in a vast range of contexts, from press releases intended for a wide audience to in-depth research essays for academic settings. These writings have informed my interest in helping make the ideas confronted in contemporary art more accessible, especially to audiences who can find it challenging. If you're making strong work, I aim to supplement it with clear, concise writing that can help your work stand out to gallerists, collectors, curators and the like. Our collaboration will be informed by comprehensive conversations, in person or over digital platforms, providing me with the key ideas behind your art. I bring an objective outlook to the work without the emotional history of creating it, ultimately producing text that gets your concepts across without any of the painful jargon that often accompanies writing on contemporary art.

Whether you're in need of a short artist statement or text for a self-published catalog, I'm here to offer my assistance, all at a rate that keeps an artist's budget in mind.

Let's get started.
