All artists have been asked this question about their work. Of course, great art often evades an essentialist "meaning" and can be understood differently by each subjective viewer; however, there are many instances where a formal interpretation can be immensely helpful. Artists statements, exhibition proposals, residency applications - the list goes on. Unfortunately, not all artists are as great at writing as Hito Steyerl, or they may simply see it as one more obstacle that keeps them from the studio.

That's where I come in. 

I have extensive experience writing about art in a vast range of contexts, from press releases intended for a wide audience to in-depth research essays for academic settings.
